Neil T. Murray is an experienced trial attorney representing clients in complex personal injury matters including construction and industrial accidents, medical negligence, defective products, police abuse, workplace accidents, and defective automobiles. He has successfully obtained multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements against major corporations, hospitals, and insurance companies in state and federal courts for clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries. As one of the Philadelphia-based personal injury lawyers of Sheridan & Murray, Neil Murray has won major verdicts and settlements in cases involving death, brain injury, spinal cord injury, paralysis, sexual assault and other catastrophic injuries.
Mr. Murray’s efforts on behalf of victims of sexual assault by a Pennsylvania State Trooper resulted in widespread reforms within the Pennsylvania State Police, including the announcement of a zero-tolerance sexual misconduct and harassment policy. Mr. Murray’s efforts uncovered a widespread pattern of sexual misconduct within the Pennsylvania State Police, which led to an independent investigation by the Pennsylvania State Auditor General, who subsequently issued a scathing report condemning this longstanding pattern and practice of sexual misconduct and a lack of discipline within the Pennsylvania State Police. Ultimately, Pennsylvania’s Governor Edward Rendell ordered that the Pennsylvania State Police be monitored by an independent contractor to ensure that the zero-tolerance sexual misconduct policy was enforced and that the systemic problems within the Pennsylvania State Police were eliminated.
Mr. Murray graduated cum laude from Villanova University and from Temple University School of Law, where he received awards for excellence in trial advocacy. He began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia and then as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania before his career in civil litigation. His work in prosecuting criminal drug and gun gangs has been recognized by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
In 2006, Mr. Murray was recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer. The Super Lawyer organization names Pennsylvania’s top lawyers chosen by surveys of the more than 36,000 lawyers across the state and through the independent research of Law and Politics magazine. The Super Lawyers represent the top five percent of Pennsylvania’s attorneys in more than 60 practice areas.
