$2 Million Verdict in Nursing Home Abuse / Wrongful Death Case
We represented the family of a 49-year-old man, Jack Trachtenberg, who tragically died while residing at the Shady Oaks Rest Home in National Park, New Jersey.
Seven days prior to Mr. Trachtenberg’s death, the nursing home admitted Ms. Maslanka, a 37-year-old woman who had recently been discharged from Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. Although the former psychiatric patient was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychotic features, Shady Oaks failed to perform an assessment to determine if she posed a potential danger to other nursing home residents.
Sadly, the safety of one patient was jeopardized—Mr. Tractenberg. On the afternoon of December 27, 2006, Mr. Trachtenberg was savagely attacked and strangled to death by Ms. Maslanka.
